SearchAll American Rejects “Gives You Hell” – ReviewOrdinary joe 29th October 2008 “I wake up every evening with a big smile on my face/ And it never feels out of place/ And your still probably working/ At a 9 – 5 pace/ I wonder how bad that tastes?” The great Oklahoma rock band the All American Rejects is getting ready to drop its third studio album “When the World Comes Down” later this year, with the release of the album’s first single. “Gives You Hell” holds to the pop-rock sound we’re used to from AAR. The anthemic sound of the song comes out when, near the end, the sounds of a big crowd yelling the chorus is clear. “When you see my face hopes it gives you hell/ when you walk my way hope it gives you hell” sings Tyson Ritter, band front man over guitar rifts that go from cool and smooth at times to heavy rock. A video by John Norris of MTV on the set of the clip for the new song features Ritter describing the song as a “Tongue and cheek way of looking at someone you hate…someone who makes you struggle, and it’s kind of giving them the finger”. However, at first listen I thought the song was directed towards an ex-girlfriend specifically. You can expect a lot of entertainment as we have become used to from this band’s videos.
