Asher Roth

As Asher Roth awaits the debut of his major label release, “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” he enjoys the success of the album’s first single “I Love College”. In the song, Roth raps about the notorious life of a college student; filled with lots of drinking, partying, weed and hook ups.

I am Champion, At Beer Pong/ Allen Iverson, Hakeem Olajuwon… Pass out at 3, Wake up at 10/ Go out to eat, Then do it again… That party last night was awfully crazy/ I wish we taped it”. Lyrics like these show Roth raps about what he knows, and with a smooth bass going, you can help rock to it, whether you’ve lived it or not. The style he produces can be described as hip hop of course, but also a delicate mix of soft rock and pop, and maybe even a hint of reggae.

“I Love College” has reached #17 on the Billboard Hot 100, and tells of the expected success of “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” set for release on April 21, 2009.

He was the white rapper to be featured on DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz series, that features big names like T.I. Roth, as you would expect, has been compared to Rapper Eminem on numerous occasions. However, he has made the smart choice to clarify that he is indeed a totally different artist. He had these words to say to Complex Magazine. “Him and I are different artists. I think the music’s going to portray that as time goes on. The comparisons are just…it’s cool to be compared to Em, but he’s one of the number one selling artists of all time. I’d rather be compared to him than pretty much anybody else. I think content and everything we rap about is completely different. We’re different artists. We just happened to be under the same genre.”
