Lady Gaga “Just Dance” Review

Lady Gaga

Last year, singer/songwriter Lady Gaga brought a fresh face to the pop rock genre with her debut album “The Fame”. And with her came a certain sexiness, quirky outfits, bleach blonde hair, and fun lyrics. “I’ve had a little bit too much/ All of the people start to rush/ A dizzy twister dance/ Can’t find my drink or man… Just dance!/ Gonna be okay!/ Dada doo doot doot-n/ Just Dance!”

Words from the lead single, “Just Dance”, which brought her global recognition in the music industry. The song was downloaded 419,000 times in one week, making it the biggest single week total for a female artist in Nielsen SoundScan history. The song features artist Colby O’donis.

Lady Gaga possesses and exhibits an R/B quality voice, with the energy of a pop contender. I find her to be a slightly less raw version of Katy Perry. The official video displays the song’s successful attempt at becoming a dance club anthem, with lots of liquor and partying. Also, the video was directed Melina Matsoukas whom most recently directed Beyonce’s “Diva” video. Gaga was cited as describing the song as follows: “If you've ever been so high that it's, like, scary, the only way you can deal with it is not deal with it, so you just kind of dance through the intoxication.

The song is currently #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 even after 22 weeks of life on the chart.

Katy Perry Too Hot N Cold for McCoy

Ordinary joe
05th January 2009

Eclectic musicians Katy Perry and Gym Class Heroes front man, Travis McCoy have allegedly ended their two year relationship, according to Celebuzz.

Katy Perry & Travis McCoy

The rapper, in not so subtle tones, told of the complications he endured with Perry by posting the lyrics of “Looking at the Front Door” by Main Source on his personal blog. Which read, “We fight every night, now that's not kosher / I reminisce with bliss of when we was closer / And wake up to be greeted by an argument again / You act like you're ten".

The lyrics really hit home, and come despite the fact that the couple spent the holidays together in Mexico. Let’s hope Perry can get her ‘temperature’ together and make some other guy's life heaven on earth.

Kanye Angry Robocop Was Leaked

Kanye West

It seems some fans really can’t wait to get Kanye West’s new album “808s and Heartbreak” because over the weekend a song from the album, “Robocop” was leaked to the net.

The song continues with the flavor the album is apparently sticking with, synthy sounds and West with “Cuz I ain wan’ no Robocop/ You movin’ like a Robocop/ When did you become a Robocop? No I don’ need no Robocop

Kanye West addressed the leak himself on his blog stating, “I did not leak Robocop!!!... That's not even the finished version... I'm pretty upset about it but that's the way life is sometimes!

He is very correct though. The leaking of albums has climbed to a new high this year, and it is only expected to get worse, artists will have to do a better job of protecting their work before release. Expect an update on this story from the Ordinary Joe Blog, when one arises.

Flyin' Paper Planes!!

Paper Planes - M.I.A. - Paper Planes

I Fly like Paper, Get High like Planes

M.I.A.

An Ordinary Joe here, with my thoughts on “Paper Planes” the hit song by M.I.A, The UK born Singer/Songwriter/Producer and Visual Artist of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam a.k.a. “M.I.A.” released her sophomore album “Kala” in August 2007. The album’s third single “Paper Planes” had some success, but it has been brought back into the spotlight thanks to its play in the trailer for the new stoner comedy “Pineapple Express”.

The song which has been covered by Rihanna is not for the faint at heart with talks of selling weed, the tune of gunshots and lines like “Some I murder, some I let go”. The song also carries tales of M.I.A’s troubles getting a visa. Because of this most of her album was not recorded in the US; however “Paper Planes” was recorded in Bedstuy, Brooklyn. “Paper Planes” has rocketed to the #6 position on the Billboard Hot 100 and was labeled the “Sales Gainer” last week. M.I.A’s talent, unique style and originality truly define her music, which serves as a warp back to a tough youth and a regular ole' “Fugees” right of passage (tell me you know who the 'Fugees' are).

Kala Album Cover

There has been controversy over whether or not the song has terrorist connotations. Mathangi’s father who was known as Arular (title of her first album) was a founding member of a Sri Lankan Tamil Militant Group called EROS which has been associated with the LTTE in the past. The LTTE has been classified as a terrorist organization by a number of countries. Their symbol is the tiger, which allegedly appears in the video at some point. It seems the movie and song have affected some more than others because, according to TMZ.com co-star of the movie “Pineapple Express” Craig Robinson has been charged with three (3) felony drug counts.
